Position Overview
PalmPay is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize the organization’s mission-critical database platforms supporting digital financial services and payment systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, backup, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance across self-managed, Kubernetes-based, and cloud database environments while maintaining highly available, secure, and resilient database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise database platforms across production and non-production environments.
  • Manage self-hosted, Kubernetes-based, and cloud-hosted database infrastructure, including MySQL and MongoDB.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, migrate, patch, and maintain database platforms with minimal service disruption.
  • Ensure database availability, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence for business-critical services.

High Availability, Backup & Disaster Recovery
  • Design, implement, and maintain database replication, clustering, failover, and High Availability (HA) solutions.
  • Manage backup, restoration, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Conduct periodic backup validation and recovery testing to ensure business continuity objectives.
  • Monitor replication health, replication lag, failover readiness, and database resilience across production environments.

Performance & Capacity Management
  • Monitor database performance, availability, storage utilization, and overall database health.
  • Perform query tuning, indexing, execution plan analysis, and database optimization.
  • Conduct capacity planning and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to improve database design and application performance.
Database Security & Compliance
  • Implement database security controls including authentication, authorization, encryption, auditing, and least privilege access.
  • Enforce secure configuration baselines, database hardening, privileged access management, and database activity monitoring.
  • Maintain database audit trails, access review records, and security logs.
  • Support compliance with Bangladesh Bank ICT Security Guidelines, PCI DSS, ISO/IEC 27001, and internal security standards.
Governance & Operational Excellence
  • Support production change management, release planning, and database deployment activities.
  • Develop and maintain database standards, SOPs, operational documentation, and technical runbooks.
  • Participate in database risk assessments, security reviews, regulatory inspections, and audit activities.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, DevOps, Information Security, Risk, and Engineering teams to ensure secure and reliable database operations.

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Professional Certifications
  • Oracle MySQL Database Administrator
  • MongoDB Associate DBA
Experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in Database Administration.
  • Strong hands-on experience managing enterprise database platforms, including MySQL, MongoDB, and other relational or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience managing self-hosted database clusters, Kubernetes-based database platforms, Cloud-hosted databases, and MongoDB Atlas environments.
  • Prior experience in Banking, FinTech, or other regulated financial institutions will be highly preferred.
  • Practical experience supporting High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup & recovery, replication, database security, performance tuning, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits, compliance initiatives, and mission-critical production environments.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of database administration, replication, clustering, backup, recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise backup, monitoring, and database automation tools.
  • Experience with Cloud, Kubernetes-based database platforms, MongoDB Atlas, and Linux in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of database security, encryption, audit logging, privileged access management, secure configuration practices, and database activity monitoring.
  • Good understanding of Bangladesh Bank ICT Security Guidelines, PCI DSS, ISO/IEC 27001, backup and disaster recovery best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • High attention to detail with strong execution capability.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated fintech environment.
