Role Overview
The Head of Legal will lead all legal functions for PalmPay Bangladesh, ensuring full legal compliance while supporting business growth in the fintech ecosystem.
This role will oversee legal strategy, regulatory engagement, contract governance, and litigation management. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in the payments, lending, or financial services industry, along with solid knowledge of labor law and practical exposure to court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Strategy & Leadership
- Lead and manage the company’s legal function in Bangladesh.
- Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Provide legal guidance to senior management on risk, compliance, and business decisions.
Labor Law & Internal Legal Support
- Provide legal support on employment matters, labor law compliance, and internal policies.
- Review HR policies, employment contracts, and disciplinary matters from a legal perspective.
Contract Management & Legal Advisory
- Oversee drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of contracts, agreements, and partnerships.
- Ensure all business contracts comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Provide legal advice across departments including HR, Finance, Operations, and Business teams.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws related to fintech, payments, and lending operations.
- Support engagement with regulatory bodies and ensure proper legal documentation and submissions.
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes and advise management accordingly.
Litigation & Dispute Management
- Manage legal disputes, claims, and litigation matters.
- Represent or coordinate representation of the company in court proceedings and legal hearings.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities.
Risk Management & Governance
- Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure proper legal documentation, governance, and audit readiness.
- Establish internal legal processes and compliance frameworks.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B); Master’s degree (LL.M) preferred.
- Must be a certified Advocate with Bar Council enrollment.
- Bangladesh Supreme Court practice permission is preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of legal experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in fintech, payments, lending, banking, or financial services is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience in contract management, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
- Must have 1–2 instances of court hearing experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of commercial law, fintech regulations, and labor law.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills with high proficiency in English.
- Ability to work with senior stakeholders and represent the company externally.
- High level of integrity, leadership, and decision-making ability.
