Role Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Payment Product Manager to lead the development and execution of our payment product strategy across diverse African markets. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the African payments landscape, including mobile money, digital wallets, card schemes, and regulatory environments. You will be responsible for identifying market opportunities, defining product roadmaps, and driving the successful launch and growth of innovative payment solutions that meet the unique needs of African consumers and businesses. 

Responsibilities:
Market Research and Analysis:
  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify customer needs, competitive trends, and regulatory changes within various African markets.
  • Analyze payment data and user behavior to identify opportunities for product improvement and innovation.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to product performance and market penetration.
Product Strategy and Roadmap:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive payment product strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives for the African region.
  • Define and prioritize product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with market needs and business goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, design, marketing, operations) to define product requirements and specifications.
Product Development and Launch:
  • Lead the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept to launch, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Work closely with engineering and design teams to develop user-friendly and scalable payment solutions.
  • Manage product launches, including marketing and communication plans, to drive adoption and growth.
Partnership Management:
  • Identify and establish strategic partnerships with mobile money operators, banks, fintech companies, and other relevant stakeholders across Africa.
  • Negotiate and manage partnership agreements to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing partners to drive ongoing collaboration and growth.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and compliance requirements related to payments in various African markets.
  • Ensure that all payment products and solutions comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to address any regulatory issues or concerns.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
  • Continuously monitor and analyze product performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Use data-driven insights to inform product decisions and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in product management, preferably in the payments or fintech industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing payment products in Nigeria or any other African markets.
  • Deep understanding of the African payments landscape, including mobile money, digital wallets, card schemes, and regulatory environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in other African languages is a plus.
  • Ability to travel across African countries as needed.
  • Experience working with payment gateways and APIs.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Established network of contacts within the African fintech and payments industry.
